Le Figaro :Le cardinal Ratzinger et maintenant le Pape Benoît XVI, ont-ils si souvent condamné les interprétations jugées abusives de la liturgie.
Cardinal Bertone : L’application des grandes orientations du concile a malheureusement pu connaître des traductions plus ou moins erronées conduisant à des appauvrissement notables. Les fruits de la réforme liturgique du concile n’en restent pas moins considérables. Il est vrai que ces abus doivent être combattus, car un partie notable du peuple chrétien a pu s’éloigner de l’Eglise en raison de ces errements. Les erreurs ne sont pas dans les textes du concile, mais dans les comportements de ceux qui ont prétendu interpréter à leur propre guise la réforme liturgique de Vatican II. Le Figaro : Un décret élargissant la possibilité de célébrer la messe en latin selon le rite antérieur à Vatican II (la messe dite de Saint Pie V) est-il toujours prévu ?
Cardinal Bertone : La valeur de la réforme liturgique conciliaire est intacte. Mais tant pour ne pas perdre le grand patrimoine liturgique donné par saint Pie V que pour accéder au souhait des fidèles qui veulent assister à des messes selon ce rite, dans le cadre du missel publié en 1962 par le Pape Jean XXIII, avec son calendrier propre, il n’y a pas de raison valable de ne pas donner au prêtre du monde entier le droit de célébrer selon cette forme. L’autorisation souverain pontife laisserait évidemment toute sa validité au rite de Paul VI. La publication du motu proprio précisant cette autorisation aura lieu, mais ce sera le pape lui-même qui expliquera ses motivations et le cadre de sa décision. Le souverain pontife donnera personnellement sa vision de l’utilisation de l’ancien missel au peuple chrétien, et en particulier aux évêques. |
In an interview for the cover story (pages 56-60) of Le Figaro Magazine (weekly magazine of the French national daily Le Figaro), published today (not yet available on the newspaper's website); excerpt:
Is a Decree widening the possibility of celebrating the Latin Mass according to the rite from before Vatican II (the so-called Mass of Saint Pius V) still expected?
[Secretary of State] Cardinal Bertone: The merit of the conciliar liturgical reform is intact. But both [for reasons of] not losing the great liturgical heritage left by Saint Pius V and for granting the wish of those faithful who desire to attend Masses according to this rite, within the framework of the Missal published in 1962 by Pope John XXIII, with its own calendar, there is no valid reason not to grant to every priest in the world* the right to celebrate according to this form. The authorization of the Supreme Pontiff would evidently preserve the validity of the rite of Paul VI. The publication of the motu proprio which specifies this authorisation will take place, but it will be the pope himself who will explain his motivations and the framework of his decision. The Sovereign Pontiff will personally explain his vision for the use of the ancient Missal to the Christian people, and particularly to the Bishops.
